What Are You Wearing This Summer?
A few friends of the blog talk shorts, shirts, sandals – and everything in between.
The menswear community is bigger than ever – and still growing – which means there’s more to be inspired by all the time. I’m constantly learning from others: new ways of dressing, what to wear, and even getting introduced to new brands. So, I thought I’d share some of my favourite people in the scene right now. You’ll spot a few familiar names, alongside some that are new to the blog. I asked each of them what they’re most looking forward to wearing this summer – and why.
Leisurely Loafing / Weejawnz
You might’ve come across Weejawnz before – his aim is simple: to share some of his favourite fits at the moment. The man behind that is Leisurely Loafing, always dedicated to showing whatever he’s wearing. So, I thought I’d ask the man himself what he’s looking forward to wearing this summer.
A good summer fit for me means something that can survive DC’s heat and humidity.
Up top, that means something lightweight like madras or seersucker in a relaxed fit to let some air flow through.
For shorts, I’ve been reaching for vintage Ralph Lauren Andrew shorts (linen if it’s the height of summer), some raw-hemmed OG-107 fatigues, or Patagonia Baggies – they’re a great way to add a pop of colour.
The nice thing about this basic summer “formula” is that your shoes can nudge the outfit in a particular direction. I generally rotate between loafers (Alden’s snuff LHS is my go-to for summer), sneakers (I like CVOs and classic grey New Balance), or sandals like Birkenstock Arizonas and Chacos.
Top it off with a hat and I’m set.

And now onto Iain Trickett – friend of the blog and, of course, the man behind one of the finest labels in the UK.
Summer dressing can be utterly terrifying for most people. You either risk looking like a grumpy grandad who doesn’t acknowledge summer, or you end up looking like an overgrown toddler wearing shorts and a T-shirt. So, here’s how I solve the problem.
For me, summer means leaning into classic Los Angeles-influenced clothing. Get yourself a pair of loose-fitting chinos in a sensible colour – think sand, navy, green. Then throw on a slightly oversized T-shirt in a very dark colour or white. Summer is the time to experiment with texture and accessories, so I like to throw on my favourite gold chain, show off a lovely watch, maybe a ring – and definitely wear that hat you haven’t had the courage to.
To round things off, I’ll always have a linen overshirt close to hand. Dress it up, dress it down, or toss it over your shoulders – you’ll look a million lira. Shoe-wise, never shy away from a sandal – let those toes breathe – and I always like to have a super modern-looking runner for those long walks and to keep my feet cool.
Summer is a time to unleash your inner fashionista and look back at those photos in the future and say, ‘Crikey, that hat looked good’ – or something like that.
Rosecoloredtiras
Now over to Tiras – someone whose style I really admire, and who you might’ve seen featured in my recent May fit round-up Reel. He really captures what I love about classic Americana with a Japanese twist. He keeps it fresh, keeps it current, and always looks good.
My go-to outfit for summer would be a clean white T-shirt with a simple graphic – this one’s from GOLF le FLEUR*. I tend to style the T-shirt tucked in with some pleated khaki shorts and a braided leather belt. The pleated shorts and braided belt (two Ivy staples) add a more formal feel to a casual outfit.
You can’t do much layering in the hotter seasons, but I think a nice chore jacket can help elevate your outfit. It’s a piece that’s lightweight and has a lot of character with all the distressing and fades.
For shoes, I always opt for some classic canvas sneakers. My go-tos are these red Authentics, which offer a subtle pop of colour. I always finish my look with a hat – this one is Namiman x Ebbets Field.
Shirt: GOLF le FLEUR*
Jacket: Vintage chore jacket
Shorts: Lands’ End
Shoes: Vans
Hat: Namiman x Ebbets
Alex Otterwell - Auteur Store
Next up is Alex Otterwell of Auteur Store – a regular and good friend of the blog, and an all-round Americana aficionado.
My summer style takes inspiration from mid-century resort wear. In my head, I’m in Palm Springs circa 1959. I’m a sucker for a cutaway collar rayon shirt — originally used for the first Hawaiian shirts — it’s super cool to the touch and amazing in hot weather. Sun Surf, The Groovin High, and Brycelands all do excellent versions.
I often wear mine open over a white vest, tucked into a pair of high-waisted shorts, and paired with my Alden loafers.
For this year’s holidays, I’m eyeing up a pair of the patterned Drake’s swim shorts.
Harandoesthings
Haran – artist, dresser, and a real inspiration. From his carefully crafted fit reels to his artwork, everything he does feels intentional. I had to ask him for his take on a summer look.
My go-to summer outfit usually starts with a vintage rugby shirt — most of mine are old Ralph Lauren, though I’ve got a few gems from Manresa and Octobré Editions too. I’ve got my eye on one from Withernot next. I love how a rugby walks the line between rugged and refined — it’s built to be lived in. I’ll throw one on to run errands, meet friends, or even for a workout. There’s something satisfying about wearing something originally made for muddy scrums to grab coffee or lift weights.
For shorts, I’m sentimentally attached to my Patagonia Stand Ups. They’re not your typical Ivy poplin or pleated pair, but the seemingly indestructible construction and cotton canvas material — getting softer with each wear — make them a legacy garment for sure. Watching them break in and fade over time has been half the fun. One of my pairs has become my designated painting short, and it’s slowly turning into an art piece of its own.
If I’ve got a more active day ahead, I usually reach for the Highland Short by Manresa. It’s basically the Swiss Army knife of summer shorts — plenty of pockets, insanely comfortable, and ready for anything. Hikes, grocery runs, impromptu dog-sitting duties — it’s the kind of piece you stop thinking about because it just works.
On foot, it’s either a beat-up pair of New Balances (usually a 990v2 or a 998) that have seen better days — but that’s half their charm — or, if I’m trying to class things up a touch, my Yuketen Kiltie loafers in whiskey leather. They add a bit of polish without feeling too precious.
Calgeary
Someone who always manages to pull a look together effortlessly. As someone who’s a big fan of his styling, I had to ask what his ideal summer outfit looks like.
In 2010, I moved to Germany and discovered what a real hot summer feels like. It’s taken me a while to figure out what I like to wear when it’s 35 degrees out, but I don’t see my go-to outfit changing anytime soon.
My outfit of choice starts with a pair of huaraches – lightweight, breathable, and made from natural materials. I pair them with 7-inch cotton chino or safari shorts, pleated and as loose-fitting as possible. On top, I go for a lightweight cotton or seersucker short-sleeve button-down shirt – it allows for much better airflow than a regular T-shirt. That said, if the humidity isn’t too high, a plain white tee is my number one alternative.
To finish off the look: sunglasses in a classic style, and a very generous layer of SPF 50 sunscreen.
A huge thank you to everyone who took the time to share their summer outfits and thoughts — it’s always a pleasure hearing how people approach dressing for the warmer months. I’d highly recommend giving them all a follow if you don’t already; there’s plenty more style inspiration where this came from.
Here’s to a well-dressed summer.
Always learning when reading Easy on the Ivy.
Great read as always.
