The New York Brand Mixing Ivy, Prep & Americana

I thought I’d treat you again this week to another midweek bonus blog. Naturally, it feels like a quick follow-up to Saturday’s piece, which looked at some of the people I met in NYC who make up the amazing scene happening over there.

If you haven’t heard of Vito’s, you may have seen the founder Victor Netland elsewhere. When he’s not modelling for the likes of J. Press and making great content, he’s one of my favourite independent makers coming out of New York’s menswear scene.

Vito’s brings together just about every corner of menswear I find interesting: Ivy, prep, military, Americana and nautical influences, all with a touch of humour and personality.

I’ve been a fan of the label for a some time after following Vito himself for a while. Recently, I finally got my hands on a couple of pieces, and it’s an understatement to say I wasn’t disappointed.

The Cotton Linen Short Jacket

First up, we’ve got the Cotton Linen Short Jacket. The fit of this is everything. I even told Vito himself that I think this might be the perfect summer jacket.

Made in the USA from a 79% cotton, 21% linen blend, it comes in two colours: Stone and Charcoal Navy. I can’t stress enough how nice the fabric is. I honestly don’t think I’ve ever worn anything quite like it before.

I’m a jacket guy. I spend most of the warmer months looking forward to the colder ones when I can start layering again, but this might have just changed that. It’s given me an answer for those days when you still want to wear a jacket, but the weather isn’t playing ball.

There are so many ways to wear it too: an Oxford shirt, a T-shirt, a sweater, whatever. Have fun with it. I feel like that’s Vito’s philosophy anyway.

The Vito’s Crest Cap

I’m a cap guy, if you haven’t noticed. I could probably go undercover quite well if I took mine off and removed my glasses, mind you, I’d probably injure myself in the process.

The Vito’s Crest Cap is made from 100% cotton ripstop in Desert Field Camo. Again, there’s so much fun to be had with this. I treat camo like any other pattern, and I love the almost amekaji-style juxtaposition of wearing it with your favourite Oxford shirt. It shouldn’t work, but somehow it just does.

Again, the fit is what makes it. It’s often a fine line when finding an amazing cap, only to try it on and realise the shape isn’t quite what you hoped for. With this one though, Vito’s has got the balance between structured and unstructured absolutely spot on.

It’s made in the USA, features a soft brim, and has a webbing clip fastener at the back. Truly, I’m in love.
