Enjoyed this read Tom.

I’m reminded of the Duke Ellington quote - "There are simply two kinds of music, good music and the other kind,"

Dressing well and making it look effortless is an art that comes naturally to some. It doesn’t even matter the style, when it’s good you can sense it instantly.

I’m aligned with « It’s a look that says you’re comfortable with where you are ».

When things goes haphazardly in your life, sometimes you just project it in an aesthetically pleasing way without realizing it.

Hey Tom, really enjoyed the latest podcast.

Here are my Japan tips.. I went 10 years ago, so shop recommendations could be a touch out of date, but hopefully the rest still stands.

The most amazing country - you’ll have a fantastic time.

Clothes-wise when you’re out there I’d recommend looking up a brand called Unfolk. I follow their designer, Miki on Insta, also an account worth a follow for some great city boy stylings.

I didn’t do a lot of clothes shopping there, but enjoyed visiting the classics Beams Plus and United Arrows. I also remember in general that accessories and bags are off the chart in Japan, with an amazing selection of really interesting ones in every department store. Porter Yoshida is a good bag brand to check out. Hands is also a great department store more on the accessories side of things.

On the cities front we visited Tokyo, Takiyama (amazing old streets), Kyoto, Osaka and Hiroshima.

In Tokyo check out Cat Street (a kind of Carnaby Street equivalent) for nice shops and Cafes. I recall the larger Muji’s have their own cafe’s which were fantastic. Also the view from the top of the Skytree is incredible and well worth the ticket price. Super Potato in Akihabara is an amazing retro video games shop.

We visited Takiyama to travel to a rural village called Shirakawa-go, a traditional mountain village with really distinctive thatched alpine style houses. It takes time to get there via bus but well worth it.

If you visit Hiroshima, the local dish called okonomiyaki is wonderful, a kind of savoury pancake.

Osaka is great for pottering around small record and jazz shops.

Thoroughly recommend the Japan tourist rail pass too, you can save a fortune on the Shinkansen.

Enjoy!
