It’s probably those Supergas currently. I do have some Shoes Like Pottery and Asahi’s that are well on their way to getting to a great level of beaten and bruised. I also have some Sebago deck shoes that most would say have seen better days, but I couldn’t bear to get rid of them!

I love this because “best clothes” used to be such a clearly understood thing. Clothes marked the difference between work and leisure, weekday and Sunday, ordinary life and an occasion. We all have a tendency to grab the most comfortable and familiar items from our wardrobe, but there is a feeling of specialness and excitement about having a dress, coat or pair of shoes that signifies “something is happening”. Are there still occasions for which you think we should make a particular effort?

Making an effort is a funny one I guess, there’s the obvious places you perhaps should, but I think there’s a sense of reading the room as well as being comfortable with what you’re wearing!
I picked up some Ralph Lauren Andrew pants in white this summer and them already showing the marks of ~30 years of use has taken away all (well most) of the feeling that they need to be babied and kept pristine that I would have with brand new white trousers.

Your Gorals are also a favourite, ageing very well. Developing their own character nicely.
They look tired, and I mean that in a good way. I’ve walked just about anywhere and everywhere with them!
The leather is cracked, a hole feels like it’s developing on the front toe box, I love them.
